Why does Bard College ask me to donate money?
We ask for money because providing a Bard undergraduate education with small classes, student diversity, extraordinary attention to the individual student, and exemplary faculty costs more than the income received from tuition. This is true of most colleges and universities in the United States. Bard works to raise the difference in cost and expense with donations and grants from individuals, foundations, government agencies, and corporations. The same is true for Bard’s satellite programs that raise funds for their operations, e.g., the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, the Bard Prison Initiative, or the Bard Early Colleges. |
